Associate professor of Solid State Physics since 1982 to 1986;

Head of the theorical group on Solid Sate Physics since 1986
Member of the academic senate since 1996 of the University "Fedreico II" of Napoli;
Head of the Department of Physical Sciences since November 2000
Scientific activity
Since 1964 to 1975 he worked on the shallow resonant impurity states associated to the secondary minima of the band structure, obtaining relevant results (F. Bassani, G. Iadonisi and B. Preziosi, Phys. Rev. 186, 735 (1968) and Report on Progress in Physics 37, 1099 (1974)). Since 1975 to 1983 he worked on the electronic surface states of semiconductors, considering later the electromagnetic modes localized at the edges of metallic stripes put on semiconductors. Also in this field he obtained good results, well verified experimentally (V. Cataudella and G. Iadonisi, Phys. Rev. B, 38, 3815 (1988)).
Since 1983 he began to study the large polaron effects on the exciton formation in polar semiconductors, calculating with great accuracy the energies of the ground and excited states. The same theory has been applied later to the calculation of the binding energy of the large bipolaron, obtaining results in full agreement with those of the path-integral technique for small and inermediate values of the electron-phonon coupling constant. Since 1994 he has studied the properties of mixed systems of polarons and bipolarons and their phases transitions also in connection with the elementary mechanism of the high Tc superconductivity. He studied also the transition of polarons and bipolarons from large to small regime as function of the electron-phonon coupling constant and the width of the electronic band. The interest is now dedicated to the multi-polarons systems to understand the optical and transport properties of the manganites and cuprates and their phase diagram.
In the year 1997 he was director together prof. J.R. Schrieffer of the Course n. CXXXVI of the "International School of Physics Enrico Fermi" of Varenna dedicated to "Models and Phenomenology for Conventional and High-temperature Superconductivity".
Since July 1997 to June 2000 he was the national head of the project "Study, characterizations and manifacturing prototypes of porous silicon devices for detecting toxic gas" to understand the optical and transport properties of the nanometric porous silicon and to construct devices sensors of gas. The project obtained a great success both considering a model which allows to understand the optical properties of the porous silicon and contructing devices sensors of gas. Two patents have been obtained in this last field. The more recent studies regard the dependence of the chemical reactivity on the form and dimension of the nanometric systems.
